Development Programmes - During Studies

Preparatory Course

The preparatory course brings together a
group of new PSC scholars to prepare them for
university life, be it overseas or locally. It is an
induction course where you are introduced
to the intricacies of formulating public policies

through case studies and discussions and

talks with public service leaders.

You will also take part in community involvement

projects to keep you in touch with the aspirations

and needs of Singaporeans and to further

cultivate your sense of empathy.

The course also builds esprit de corp
with fellow scholars, and of course
prepares you for studying and living
overseas. During the course, you will
meet your seniors and gain insightful
tips from them on life overseas.

PSC Scholars Mid-Course Programme

We fly you home at the end of your second year for this mid-course programme. About 6-8 weeks in duration, the Mid-Course programme will be held in Singapore during your vacation. During this programme, you will have a vacation attachment with one of the Ministries or public service agencies to gain first-hand experience of what it is like to work in the Civil Service. You will also attend a week-long Developments in Public Policy Seminar where you will sharpen your understanding of what makes the Civil Service tick! In addition, you will have insightful discussions with senior public service leaders and politicians and carry out community involvement projects.

Internships and attachments

During university vacations, you are strongly encouraged to source for internships and attachments in private organisations and MNCs, or other public sector organisations of your choice. Such internships and attachments wil not only benefit you on a personal level but also the public sector, as the experiences gleaned during the internships and attachments will stand you in good stead when you start your career in the public service. We are very flexible in facilitating each individual scholar's development and we will be glad to discuss or even facilitate your internship and attachment opportunities.
