Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship

The 2010 Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship application has closed on 9 December 2009. Application for the 2011 Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship will commence in November 2010.   

 

General


The Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship is synonymous with both prestige and a willingness to serve Singapore. It marks Singapore's continuous effort to recognise outstanding individuals with the aptitude and inclination to contribute to our society.

With generous contributions from the public, the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship Fund was set up in 1991 in honour of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

Level and Fields of Study


Scholars can pursue either Master's or PhD programmes at local or overseas universities. There is no restriction on the course of study.

Applicants should individually make private arrangements to sit for the pre-admission tests such as GRE, TOEFL or GMAT.

Eligibility


The scholarship is highly selective. Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:
  • Singapore Citizen with outstanding academic records (at least a Second Class Upper Honours Degree); and
  • Demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and be active in social, community services or sports.

Applicants who are pursuing a Master's Programme in General Management should preferably have at least 4 years of working experience. Applicants who intend to pursue either PhD or other Master's Programme should preferably pursue an area of study/research that would be beneficial to Singapore. Public Officers are required to submit their applications through their Chief Executive Officers or Permanent Secretaries.

Terms and Conditions


Besides receiving a one-off sum of S$10,000, successful applicants will be given an annual allowance. For the annual allowance portion, the private sector awardees will receive S$50,000. Those from the public sector will receive S$10,000. This Scholarship does not carry any bond.

Method of Application


The next application cycle will commence in November 2010.

Shortlisted applicants may be requested to sit for psychometric assessment tests in January 2010.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by February 2010.

Interviews will be held in March 2010.
