SAF Overseas Scholarship (SAFOS) 

The prestigious SAF Overseas Scholarships are only offered to a few outstanding candidates each year.

The Scholarship offers a unique opportunity for bright candidates to pursue undergraduate degrees at most universities. They will enjoy full pay and generous allowances while studying.

  

 

 

Course of Study


SAF Overseas Scholars may choose to study any subject within the following broad fields:
  • Arts
  • Economics
  • Engineering
  • Law
  • Psychology
  • Science/Natural Sciences

Other courses of study may also be considered.

SAF Overseas Scholars who intend to pursue a degree in Law will not be called to the Bar while serving in the SAF.

Career Advancement and Promotion Prospects
SAF Overseas Scholars are systematically trained, developed and groomed to assume key command and staff appointments in the SAF.

The SAF Scholar's usual path:

i) Disrupt from officer cadet training sometime in August/September of their year of award to proceed for tertiary studies overseas
ii) Serve attachments with both foreign and local military units during university vacation
iii) Attend an overseas Basic Officers' Course upon graduation
iv) Spend 2 to 3 years serving in the combat units to gain practical military experience
v) Further development in specialised military and management training

Areas of Duty:

They will then be appointed to staff positions at Battalion/Brigade level or in Mindef HQ to perform duties in the areas of:
i) Operations
ii) Personnel
iii) Intelligence
iv) Logistics
v) Planning or
vi) Training.

Opportunities for Postgraduate Studies


Further training will be provided to prepare them for senior command and staff appointments. There are also opportunities to pursue postgraduate studies in Public Administration, Management, International Relations, etc.

Candidates offering GCE 'A' Levels


To be eligible for PSC Scholarships, candidates should offer at least 11 academic units.
