The prestigious SPF Overseas Scholarships offer successful applicants the opportunity to pursue a degree course at a distinguished university overseas. During their study, they will enjoy full salary and generous allowances. Course of Study

SPFOS applicants may choose to read any subject within the following broad fields:
  • Arts
  • Engineering
  • Psychology
  • Law
  • Science

Other courses of study may also be considered.

SPF Overseas Scholars who intend to pursue a degree in Law will not be called to the Bar while serving in the SPF.

Career Advancement and Promotion Prospects
The SPF Overseas Scholars will be appointed as Probationary Inspectors. They will then proceed for their university course in August/September of the year the scholarship is awarded.

After enlistment to National Service for 24 months, they will be confirmed as Inspectors. During their vacation, they will return for attachments to the various line and staff units, and be exposed to both operational and non-operational aspects of police work.

Scholars will spend approximately 1-2 years in a Land Division. During this period, they will be put through more responsible postings progressively. This will enable them to gain in-depth knowledge of police duties, powers, investigations and procedures through practical experience. At the same time, scholars can develop their capacity for command, staff work, supervision and leadership.
